Works of the month garden September

September is one of the golden months for vegetable garden, garden and orchard; by engaging during these weeks we can lay a solid foundation for the optimal development of our plants during the spring of next year. Many fairs and exhibitions held this time of year can help us choose new essences to be planted in our garden; we take advantage of September also to visit gardens and botanical gardens, the colors of the last blooms and the beginning of autumn will give us an unforgettable show, before having to think about the cold and the fog.

During these weeks we continue to water and fertilize our garden, constantly monitoring weed development, especially now that they are producing seeds. We are also concerned about removing the plants that have suffered from the great heat, or the annuals that have already ended their vegetative cycle, such as annual cosmee and drowsers, of which we can harvest the seed to spread it at home next year. The turf needs to be treated in an assiduous manner, resuming the fertilizations after the August heat; eventually we could evaluate an intervention of re-seeding, and selective weeding. In this month it is also possible to prepare a new turf, so that the grass is already well developed when winter comes. We can begin to prepare the flowerbed of spring-flowering bulbous plants, which must be placed in soft and loose soil; if placed at home, they will not suffer from the winter cold. This is also the ideal month to prepare cuttings and to divide perennials; or to plant new plants, shrubs and trees; in this way we can lay the foundations for a lush spring garden. The jobs of the month foresee the sowing in warm beds or glass of the following species: alisso, lion's mouth, centaurea, of enjoyia, margheritina, do not forget me, violaciocca, violet of the mind. Let us remember that autumn is the ideal time to replenish seeds directly in nature; we can collect many of them even in our garden. Let us inform ourselves on a case by case basis about the peculiar characteristics of the plant from which we take them, but also of the ideal sowing period: in fact some seeds are fertile for a short time, while others can be kept intact for years. The seeds that we will keep for next spring should be dried in the sun, and then dusted with fungicide, to avoid the onset of mold that would make them unusable.September plants

For those who still want to give some color, there are some beautiful plants to put in the garden that are able to give splendid blooms and special colors from September onwards. Settembrini are certainly the most sought-after flowers in this period and are an excellent solution for those who want to renovate the flower boxes or flower beds by replacing the summer flowers that are almost always dry in this period or in any case in the final phase of their splendor. In addition to the Settembrinis, Veronica is also a plant that blooms during this period and is ideal for giving some color to the garden or balcony. The veronica must be placed in an acid soil and must have a sunny exposure but possibly sheltered from the direct sun during the hottest hours of the day.
